The Intimacy of Friendship

I wanted to honor the unique bonds I share with others and the intimacy that is created through friendship. Often when we think of intimacy it is relegated to romantic relationships, but platonic intimacy is just as sacred and necessary.
My hope is that this series captures a magic that is held in person, dynamic, landscape—a magic that is felt. Before any click of the shutter, I sat with each friend and collaborator as we discussed what our friendship felt like and the aspects of it we wanted to bring to our shoot together. Images were captured in private and public spaces, ones that belonged to my friends, ones that had particular significance in our friendship or ones that held mutual excitement for artistic potential.

In 2021 I moved to a new city during the height of the pandemic, desiring community above all else. The vibrant queer community I built has brought so much joy, companionship, support, validation, care and love. These connections inspired a return to this series.
This set was created in 2022 in collaboration with Mia (they/them) and Lucian (they/them). Shot in Portland, OR on 35mm film.
